Fifteen days after the Berlinale, the spectators on FEST will have the opportunity to see this year's Golden Bear, the film Grbavica of Bosnian author Jasmina Zbanic.
The story of the film is about single mother Esma, who lives in Sarajevo with her 12-year old daughter. Sara believes her father died a hero's death while defending the city. However, when offered a free of charge excursion if she brings a certificate proving she is the child of a war hero, the girl begins to learn the truth. Esma can not produce the required document and ultimately admits Sara to be the offspring of a Serb soldier who raped her mother while she was in a prisoners' camp…
The roles of mother and daughter are played by Mirjana Karanovic and Luna Mijovic respectively; co-starring are Emir Hadžihafizbegovia, Dejan Aaimovia, Bogdan Diklia, Semka Sokolovia-Bertok, Ermin Bravo and Jasna Žalica. Grbavica is an Austrian, Bosnian, German and Croatian co-production. In addition to the Golden Bear, it also received in Berlin the Award of the Ecumenical Jury and the Peace Award.
The Director of Grbavica shall come out before the Belgrade public in the Main Hall of the Sava Center on March 6, prior to the showing of the film, which will at the same time be its premiere in our country. Grbavica will be shown in the framework of "FEST-a na bis" – where the most interesting works shall be shown for a second time. The other films that will also be shown for a second time shall be chosen by the public by vote. What those films will be we will inform you in due course. |
